I recently met a guy named Greg Dix at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda who told me about his good friend Walter Light Jr. (pictured above). Walter’s mom, Olga "Joy" Light, started a tradition back in 1929 by collecting famous autographs on an Irish linen tablecloth. Walter has carried on this tradition getting autographs from all sorts of famous people including Julie Andrews, Henry Kissinger, Barry Manilow, Ronald Reagan and Wayne Gretzky to name a few.. Check out all the names–more than 800!
Walter’s website The Tablecloth.com has a photo gallery and stories of his adventures along the way in collecting these autographs-a sweet and interesting history.
